I love how the back blurb calls Date Rape rough lovemaking back in ole 1981.This is a pretty good unrequited love story Heroine is an actress Hero is a playwright so we get b tchier repartee than usual Set in a villa in Nice, France.

Give Charlotte Lamb props for being one of the earliest Harlequin authors to write a story featuring a heroine who s been a victim of acquaintance rape charmingly called rough lovemaking on the book s back cover The heroine blames herself for getting drunk and being too innocent to realize the intentions of the seductive man she meets at a New Year s Eve party, which I wouldn t have a problem with if I believed the text didn t hew to that belief, too The love interest unrequited for many years starts off nice, being patient in the face of what he knows must be some deep hurt her heroine has suffered But a big thumbs down for the way he acts after they accidentally encounter the rapist When he sees how emotionally she reacts to the man who harmed her he doesn t yet know she s been raped , he becomes almost as abusive toward her as the rapist was calling her a stupid little bitch and getting angry at her for being a tease Even after she reveals her secret, the hero is behaves rather appallingly Points to the difficulty inherent in differentiating between a rapist and a dominating Harlequin alpha male

I misread the description so this one was a nice surprise which kept me guessing I kept biting my nails wanting the story to go one way and afraid it would go another.

I have a weakness for late 70s early 80s Harlequins because they re so overwrought and unhealthy This is the generation that gives the genre its reputation that romance novels are all about rape and heaving bosoms I don t think that any bosoms heave in this one, but there are a lot of nerves trembling nerves, throbbing nerves, tingling nerves I opened to a random page and her nerves ran with fire Sounds uncomfortable, doesn t it Oh, and there s also lots of golden flesh probably because, being the early 80s, no one was as paranoid about skin cancer and so the entire book is about sunbathing The main characters do nothing but sit by the pool in the south of France and have nerves Given the winter we ve had, I would consider heaving and throbbing to get to sit by the pool in the south of France.

another awesome one from CL she s done it again i thought luke might be our hero as he was the handsome of the two men and clearly the one who affected claire she was an emotional iceberg for 7years and got out of it only when luke came back on the scene she suddenly woke up and realised she was hot for macey or was she simply sex starved can a rape victim be so eager for sex i dunt think so she was obviously still not cured and badly needed therapy i minused 1 star bcoz i dunt believe in their HEA and i dunt think they solved their issues yet as they never succeeded in having sex

I thought the hero was almost as bad as the first guy He had seemed understanding and reasonable at first, but right before the coming end, he treated the heroine as thought she didn t have a mind of her own He made her doubt her feelings for him saying she was behaving like a sex starved teenager Then in the end called her a bitch a few times before forced seducing her by saying this is what you wanted, isn t it Ugh. the guy ruined this book for me.

  7. says:

The only reason I gave this book 3 stars instead of 2 was because the hero was so great For seven years he patiently loved the heroine, waiting for her to be ready for a relationship she was raped 9 years earlier He was sweet and different from a lot of Charlotte Lamb asshole heroes.

  8. says:

Good story about unrequited love on the hero s side Heroine is a rape victim, hero is very understanding, but the confrontation with the rapist makes everything murky between them It s very much a story about healing and learning to trust again.

  9. says:

Good read Confusing theme though The guy aped her and go to run off when the hero wanted to beat his ass then the heroine falls in love with the hero It was twisted a bit and uncertain.

  10. says:

Rough love making First rape is not love making and ahem lovemaking where you say No isn t s rape That asideI reserve judgement until I edit my comment.
